Does it seem like only straight men love Spidey?
Let's change the name of the show to Creepy.
I was at the 13th hour.
And to be honest, bc I thought his act was likely bullshit, was conflicted as to how salacious it truly was.
As a person who identifies as a woman, I sat with this question. if it was real, and if it wasnt, had that young woman, "yes she said yes" been violated on some level. And if she didnt feel she had, was it still acceptable? Clearly on an energetic level, it was not acceptable to a large number of folks at the 13th hour. Something was Creepy...
I became disgusted when I had a conversation with a very concerned and upset barista who worked in a cafe that Spidey apparently went to with a band of men to teach them "how to pick up women." This young woman was completely grossed out by his vibe and by the fact that he would hypnotize men in her cafe and talk about how to gain mind control over women...to get laid. This anecdote completely convinced me that this show, this "entertainer" was not okay for me. Yuck! Gross! Eek! As a woman, I am offended that Creepy would lead a seminar on how to pick up women with mind control. Really? Is that all you got? Is that all they got? I am so angry. I feel so uncomfortable at the very thought of this. That doesnt sit well with me. That signals to me that none of this is okay.
And why? What's the big deal? The big deal for me is that this kind of game is exactly what rapists, kidnappers, sexual abusers, pedophiles and sociopaths use to harm others. To violate others. For me, it's the same thing. And for me, a woman who as a teen was violated by a very "smart" 40 year old man, I say "shame on you!" Shame on you for making this a joke. For making a buck on showing how you can manipulate others.
Furthermore, I started to look at the BUZZ. It's always a guessing game as to the gender of the folk sharing on BUZZ....I'm creeped out by what seems to be buzz support for Spidey -by men. I am making this assumption strictly on the language and expression of folks, but as I read the reviews, that has been my instinct and gut reaction. Am I right? I'd love to know that I am wrong....seriously.
If sales are that important, where do you draw the line? When do morals and ethics (and respect) and personal integrity come into play for you in your life? I think it's a question we all need to consider for ourselves, and I know tons of women and men at the Fringe, who sense that, based on your choice of show material, you do not consider this contemplative inquiry, this spiritual exploration and journey.
Granted I am speaking based on what I saw at the 13th hour, conversations with others, assumptions and hearsay, but all I can say is if this is true, any of it, Spidey, you need to take all that money you're so proudly making, and use it to heal herself and really explore the power of the mind without manipulation .
