Yee haw

Matthew on I Like Cowboys

Geez, you know what, I liked this. Yeah maybe it's too long by twenty minutes. And yeah, it's maybe not "Fringey" enough(no t & a, not much potty mouth), but it's a fully realized piece of theatre with a sophisticated structure and genuinely good writing and acting. The live band on stage adds a strange and wonderful element. Sometimes it seemed as though the directing had fallen out with the writing, maybe too straight for the inherent irony but still pretty great.

I Wanna be a Cowboy

Julian on I Like Cowboys

This show is very entertaining and makes me want to be an actor just starting out all over again. The cast is full of energy and talent, and I loved the live onstage band as a kind of sound track. I was really impressed with everything about this show--fully realized set, costumes and a funny, ironic story. I'm going again tonight.

Étonnant et déconcertant - bravo

C Maryse Valo on Les quatre petites filles

If I buy a juicer, I'm gonna save a fortune on juice.

Bryan on Please Excuse the Mess

We flow into disordered state unstoppably, not even for a quick break. We create a structure around us to fill the void between what we are and what we want to present to the world.

Through a delightful collection of contrasting scenes Please excuse the mess dismantles these ridiculous (but necessary?) structures, at first gently, at times chaotically, and at times relentlessly.

Go and see it.

Ben on Just Us in the Bedroom

I quite enjoyed this year's production of "Just Us in the Bedroom". The small two person show was very ably acted by Atli Bollason (Bekky) and Morgan Kritzinger (David). Both actors managed to strike a nice balance between the headier/heavier themes and the lighter more comedic material present in the production; both Bollason and Kritzinger were natural and compelling, delivering some complicated dialogue in an organic and convincing way, exhibiting chemistry and connection even amidst the abstract dream-like nature of the plot.

Boobs, blood, and ice cream.

Mr. Bojangles on Adelaide's Sex Dreams: two plays with ice cream

This show can be a bit hard to follow, but I think the less you try to figure it out, the more enjoyable it is. Once the play is over, then you can go over it in your head. Caught myself laughing out loud quite a few times. And the acting is quite intense, you really get drawn in and forget that you're watching a play. Writing is very good, but at times can be too much good material, too quickly. So listen carefully to their rants.

***DANCE ANIMALS***

Frankie on Dance Animal Presents: Freaks of Nature

my girlfriend dragged me to see this show and I have to admit I (secretly) thought it was fantastic. The stephen harper skit had me cracked up. Excellent writing and excellent dancing, i totally recommend it, even for the guys!

F*cking hilarious

Talia on Dance Animal Presents: Freaks of Nature

I went to see Dance Animal Presents: Freaks of Nature last night and I can honestly say it was the funniest hour+ I've had in a very long time! The dancers have boundless energy and the choreographies are tight! I've actually lost my voice today as I laughed all the way through. I'll definitely be going back before the end of the fest, GO SEE THIS ONE!

Saddle Up for Cowboys !

Tristan on I Like Cowboys

Saw I Like Cowboys on Monday night and loved it ! It's funny, smart and very sweet script showcases a bunch of really good actors. The band was fantastic, too. Forget about the rain and get out to see this one !

Daniel R

on Recess

It's a shame there's only one performance left because Una's show should be mandatory viewing at the Fringe.
An incredible performance that strikes the perfect balance between funny and sad, heartwarming and devastating. Una has an incredible ability to bring several characters to life and to humanize deep socio-political issues.
The show is so impressive, it brings back your faith in the power of theatre.

If you can go tonight, you absolutely must. Don't hesitate, you won't be disappointed.

GO!

Fun fun fun

on Three

A really interesting experiment in bringing the real to the stage ... or the other way around even? Great interaction between projections and live action (how many times have you seen that done poorly or in a boring way?) If you go in expecting a comedy or drama with a traditional structure and conversations you might be disappointed, but this is a really creative experimental piece, and very enjoyable also -- lots of funny stuff in the script, and I found myself laughing heartily time and again.

I enjoyed every minute of it

René-Marc Simard on Shades of Grey

3 original, smart and accessible sci-fi stories played in a format reminiscent of the original Twilight Zone TV series. Very true to the original source and with the whole cast and decor turned grey scale. I enjoyed every minute of it, and even want to see it again! Much recommended! :-)

Such a beautiful performance!

René-Marc Simard on archy and mehitabel

Such a beautiful performance! Century-old story dusted off and brought to life in such an endearing way. I had a large grin on my face throughout and now want to know more about the source material. My favourite Fringe 2010 show so far, very much recommended! :-)

Divertissant!

René-Marc Simard on L'Abri

5 personnages dans un abri nucléaire et leurs pensées internes, comiques et tordues. Excellente dynamique d'équipe. Divertissant!

Refreshingly unique;

René-Marc Simard on There Will Be Lasers

Wow! 20 minutes of disconnecting from reality and transporting yourself somewhere else in deep space. And there *are* lasers. Refreshingly unique; I enjoyed it! :-)

Powerful exchange

René-Marc Simard on Poison the Well

Story of hostage release negotiations between 2 long-lost friends. Backdrop plot is more a pretext for a powerful exchange and personal conflict dynamic/resolution between two guarded & wounded characters. Good writing by Connor. I enjoyed it!

Japanese cartoon character on acid

René-Marc Simard on SHOSHINZ presents: A Day in the Life of Miss Hiccup

Colourfully crazy performance that looks like a Japanese cartoon character on acid. If you've never seen her before you'll be in for a fun trip through her childish imagination. Less physical than her previous show or Hanakengo's, she stretched her performance from to 60 minutes making it a tad too long. Still worth watching!

Has a positive and touching feeling

René-Marc Simard on How to survive an existential crisis

Touching story of a promising young man whose uprooted childhood and personal tragedy left him zombie-like for too long ...and how he came alive again by embracing the world, saying "yes" to everything and realizing his full potential.

I usually avoid autobiographical plays, but I really love this one. There's definitely something that everyone can connect with in it, and has a positive and touching feeling still resonating in me days after seeing it. Much recommended! :-)

Witty and fun comedy

René-Marc Simard on Jesus Jello: The Miraculous Confection

Witty and fun comedy about a small-town religious apparition and the various lives it touches. Received a deserved standing ovation when I was there. Ran for 85 minutes instead of 60 ...and the venue was very warm, so plan your evening accordingly. I recommend it! :-)

A beautiful mix

René-Marc Simard on The Duck Wife - La Femme Canard

Aboriginal story of a young Inuit hunter marrying an unusual woman. A beautiful mix of dance, story-telling and live music with an appropriate dash of humour. I enjoyed it!
